Veneers vs. crowns [Sunday, September 05, 2010]
Without a proper evaluation of the teeth it is difficult to recommend veneers over crowns and vice-versa. I can tell
that we have had excellent results with porcelain veneers for covering discolorations, fixing
chipped or broken teeth, closing spaces, making teeth appear straighter, and other cosmetic
concerns. Veneers do not just have to cover the front part of the tooth; they can "wrap" around
the tooth if necessary to fill in spaces, add length, or if extra strength is needed. Depending on
your bite (occlusion), amount of damage to tooth, periodontal condition, and treatment needed,
veneers may not work. You may need crowns or a combination of crowns and veneers.
