Gum Contouring

Gum contouring is also known as gum reshaping which is a process we use to reduce excess gum tissue that may be causing a “gummy smile.”

Gingival contouring procedures can be performed for cosmetic reasons and for oral health reasons like poor dental hygiene. Excess gum tissue may occur because of formation of deep gum pockets because of tartar and plaque buildup and improper tooth brushing technique.

It is a minor procedure that typically requires only one dental visit which can last about one hour, depending on the case. A local anesthetic is applied to the gums and then the soft tissue laser is used to trim the excess gums away, contour and then seal the gum tissue. Patients may feel only minor discomfort and no bleeding or stitches are involved.

Our team at Advance Dental Care can use an advanced laser designed to remove extra soft tissue to improve balance and symmetry between your gums and teeth. This procedure can give you a healthier looking smile.
